She would need a doggy bed or kennel. You need to get puppy food. She will also need toys and a collar with tags. Make sure you give her lots of love too. AND DON'T FORGET TO BATHE IT EVERY FEW WEEKS

First off, you NEED to get her spayed if you don't plan on breeding her. Spaying can prevent pyometra, a deadly illness that female dogs get that have not been spayed. I lost my Shih-Tsu from that disease a little over 5 years ago. I am still in mourning. Please, do your dog a favor by getting her spayed. Only if you don't plan on breeding her, of course.

I would suggest doing research and learning how to take care of a dog before you consider adopting one. It's not as simple as bringing her into a loving home. You have to pay for food, vet bills, grooming, toys, bed, jacket for outside if you live somewhere cold, etc. You will also have to learn how to train her. You have to find time to take her for walks. It's also a good idea to make sure that breed is the right dog breed for you.

It's great that you want to adopt a dog, because they really do need the home and love. But I think you should let this dog go to someone who knows more about dogs. Once you've done your homework, you'll be ready to adopt!! :)

read the food bag and divide it by 3. that is how much you should give at each meal. So if the total is 1 cup per day, feed 1/3 cup at each meal.

Typically it is easiest on the animal and the owner to feed pets twice a day with treats in-between.
How much to feed is a tricky question.
Under all that hair feel his body, his shoulders, hips, ribs and back bone.
On a healthy pup at two months old he should be a bit pudgy for lack of a better word!
The bones should not be so difficult to find that you have to really search for them under the fat, nor should they be so prominent that you can feel every little bone. His belly should feel rounded, not out of portion to the rest of his gerth. He should not be really thin everywhere and have a big tight pot belly.
For one so small I would read on the bag and subtract one third as most dog food companies want you to over feed so you have to pay for more food quicker and the treats (1 to 4) you will be giving during the day when he potties out side or does that really cute trick will keep him from feeling like he is starving.
Now take that amount and split in half, one portion to be given after he goes out for the first time in the morning and one portion to be given five hours before you have him go nite-nite to avoid axidents all puppies have.
If he is loosing weight or gaining to fast it will have an effect on his bone and muscle growth so if this happens take him to your vet have him checked for parasites and speak with him or her about what is happening. It is important to give treats in between meals as the smaller dogs often suffer from low blood sugar but don't let that freek you out into over giving the treats. tell yourself you will break two treats up and trick yourself and your dog into thinking you are handing out more than you really are.

As for the cold weather, find a crocheter in the family to whip you up a easy sweater or get an old wool sock without its mate and cut it up for a quick cheap sweater until you can buy him something already made...don't forget his feet in the winter time, they get cold, dried out and the pads may dry out and crack due to the salt that is applied to sidewalks to keep them from getting slick..
good luck!

I have a Chihuahua. DO NOT BABY HIM!!!!!!!!!! That is the biggest mistake you could ever do with this breed. That's the reason why Chis have such a bad reputation, because people don't treat them like any other dog, so they thing they are the king/queen of the house when they're not and That's when they start getting yappy and annoying and nervous dogs. Chis are mostly devoted to it's main owner but it can be very loving to everyone if you give it the proper socialization. Take him with you places so that he gets to know the world out there and not get nervous about everything there is out there. Get him used to other people, let other people carry him and play with him that way he learns that other people are fun too. Be strict in his/her training. they're very stubborn dogs and they need a lot of patience and dedication when it comes to their training. Reward him with treats for good behavior. Feed him good food. I recommend Royal Canin special for Chihuahuas. It's the best food you can give them and it gives them a ton of benefits. it is crucial that you avoid feeding him any other food aside from good quality treats and his kibble due to it's possible health conditions. Make sure that you socialize him/her with other doggies. I suggest getting together with some friends that have dogs and let them play together so that he/she can get used to being nice. If he misbehaves do not reward him. like I previously said, treat hiim liek any other dog. It's crucial for his wellbeing in the future if you want to avoid having a yappy, annoying, and nervous dog.
